Residents of Hong Kong or Macau area refers to those who are permanent residents in Hong Kong or Macau, and not the holders of the overseas passport of Great Britain or Hong Kong or Macau passports. It also refers to those who are holders of Portugese passports that were obtained in Macau prior to the end of Portuguese rule. For applicants from Hong Kong or Macau who are qualified as above described, their applications will be reviewed as foreigners.
Residents of Hong Kong or Macau, including their spouses and children who have qualified for citizenship of the Republic of China, or who have obtained the status of ‘overseas Chinese’, before the governing periods of Great Britain and Portugal ended can apply for Work Permits. For people who are not categorized by the above descriptions, the Council of Labor Affairs will treat them as citizens of the Mainland China; it is currently prohibited for the Mainland Chinese to work in Taiwan.
